Rev. Dr. Charles J. Kellam, Sr.

Rev. Dr.  Charles J. Kellam, Sr. is a native of the Eastern Shore of Virginia.  He resides in Cheriton, Virginia with his wife, Doris Kellam, and their 2 children-Charles Jr. and Sharail.  

In 1979, Dr. Kellam completed his formal educational training at Northampton High School located in Eastville, Virginia.  In 1983, he received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology from St. Paul’s College. Dr. Kellam is a 2004 graduate of Virginia Union University Samuel Dewitt Proctor School of Theology with a Master of Divinity.   He is also a 2010 graduate with an earned Doctor of Ministry.  Dr. Kellam currently teaches at the Northampton High School, serves as the JV basketball coach, services as the 1st vice-Moderator for the Eastern Shore VA/MD Baptist Association and its Ministries, a board member for the Baptist General Convention of Virginia, Vice-Polemarch of KAPPA ALPHA PSI fraternity (Eastern Shore Chapter), chairman of the ANPDC (Accomack-Northampton planning district commission), and 2nd Vice President for the Northampton County NAACP.

In addition, Dr. Kellam has formerly served as head football coach for the Northampton Yellow Jackets, Northampton County Public schools truancy officer and a former full-time teacher at the Northampton Middle School Tech Center, where he dealt with at-risk youth. He was appointed to serve on the 2011 nominating committee for the Baptist General Convention of Virginia.  Dr. Kellam services as a former member of the board of Director for the YMCA of the Eastern Shore and past president for Eastern Shore Virginia/Maryland Baptist Association Men Ministry.

God called Dr. Kellam to lead the New Mt. Zion Baptist Church in October 2001, where he has assumed the duties as their shepherd.  Under his leadership, the church has grown tremendously spiritually and financially. His objective is to obtain a position in the community of faith that will allow him to fulfill his calling in ministry and to fully utilize his skills in preaching, teaching and leadership. Since pastoring NMZ, Dr. Kellam has greatly increased membership and spiritual growth, established numerous new ministries,  and appended multivarious renovations throughout the entire sanctuary. 


Dr. Kellam serves as an evangelist facilitating workshops and seminars in leadership, stewardship and church ethics throughout the Eastern Shore.
